Efforts are on to trace the 10 persons who were allegedly abducted by militants from south Kashmir late on Thursday and one of them, a policeman, was later released.

The other nine have been identified as close relatives, mostly sons or brothers, of the policemen.

Militants reportedly abducted a policeman’s son from Midoora village of Tral, another cop’s brother in Kakapora and a cop from Kangan in Pulwama. Sources said there were reports of abduction from Kulgam too. “The policeman from Kangan was released after severe thrashing,” a source said.

The abductions took place a day after houses of two militants were set ablaze allegedly by the forces and the father of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo was arrested.
