Motorcyclists without helmets will be barred from buying petrol at filling stations in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
An order issued here by District Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah said the large number of road accidents have been reported involving two wheelers in Srinagar city.
“I, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS District magistrate, Srinagar hereby direct that all petrol pump owners operating in the territorial jurisdiction of the district Srinagar shall not provide fuel to the two wheelers who are without helmets. Any petrol pump owner found violating these orders shall be liable for punishment under relevant provisions of law,” the order read.
“Whereas in majority of these cases it has been observed that the two wheeler riders do not wear helmets. Whereas it is expedient to ensure that all two wheeler riders shall wear helmets,” it said.
Shah issued the order while exercising his powers under section 144 CRPC.
The deputy commissioner Srinagar asked SSP Traffic City and SSP Traffic Rural to ensure implementation of the order in “letter and spirit.”
