Thousands attend last rites of slain Hurriyat activist in north Kashmir’s Sopore

Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of slain Hurriyat activist Hakeem-ur Rehman Sultani at Bomai village in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Unknown gunmen shot Sultani dead while he was travelling in a car in Bomai village earlier today.

An eye witness said thousands of people participated in his funeral prayers. He said people from nearby and far-off villages of Zainageer belt took part in his last rites.

He said pro-freedom slogans were raised as his body was lowered into the grave at the local graveyard.

Sultani who is survived by his wife and four daughters was released couple of weeks ago after serving two years in a jail in Kupwara on charges of stone-pelting.
