Udhampur, September 19: Three days state level capacity building training programme on Social Defence issues for Police Functionaries was organized at Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur.
The programme which was started on September 17, 2018 was sponsored by National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment GOI.
Sh. K.S Parihar, Hon’ble Principal District and Session Judge Udhampur (Chairman Legal Services Authority) inaugurated the training programme.
During the training programme, the participating police officers were sensitized about the Concept, Nature, Areas and Need of Social Defence and also to understand the core idea and preview of social defence, role of Police Officers in issues related to old age care and crime against elderly and other social defence issues.
The training Programme schedule was chalked out meticulously and every effort was made to cover the different issues on Social Defence- like Magnitude of the old age care Policy and Programmes, Salient features of Maintenance and Welfare of parent and senior Citizens Act 2014, Crime against Elderly, community Policing for elderly people and role of Police on Prevention and control of these Crimes. Drug Abuse it’s nature, classification, types & identification of NDPS, Reasons of Drug abuse repercussions, programmes and schemes, Drug Abuse treatment, counseling and replace prevention, Provisions of different legislations on drug Abuse and role of police in Prevention and control of drug abuse, Problems of Destitute,related state legislation’s and role of police, Role of Media and network on Social Defence particularly Drug Abuse and Elderly Issues. The participants also visited the old age home Udhampur and held firsthand knowledge and experience while interacting with the elderly inmates.
Guest faculty Dr. Vinay Kumar and Dr. Nancy Mengi, from Social Work Department of Central University of Jammu, Sunita Santoshi from Helpage India, Dr. Gurmeet Kour, I/C DDC Medical college Jammu, R.C. Kotwal, SSP Hqr. Jammu, Sana Khan, District Social Welfare officer Udhampur, Dr. Abhinav Mathur, Asstt. Prof. Indian Institute of Mass Communication Jammu, Deepak Kumar, IO from Narcotics Control Bureau, held detailed deliberations with the course participants during different training sessions.
The training programme was held under the overall supervision of Mohd. Sulaiman Salaria, ADGP, Director SKPA, Udhampur assisted by Stenzin Norboo, SSP, and Murtaza Nasir, DDP AD Indoor. The course was effectively coordinated by S. Randheer Singh, SSP and Arun Koul, SI Incharge Training functioned as course secretary.
