In violation of human rights, the Aligarh Police encountered two alleged criminals accused of murder and robbery in full public view where the killing has been captured on camera and is going viral.
The video footage shows armed the Aligarh Police taking aim and firing at the two alleged criminals who are hiding in what looks like an abandoned building.
According to the police, the two persons gunned down this morning are Mustaqim and Naushad both carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on their head, who were on the police radar for the last few days for their reported role in six murders in the district.
They had reportedly murdered two Hindu priests, a couple and two farmers.
Five persons all Muslims have already been arrested in connection with these six murders.
The police version said that the accused were choosing their victims randomly trying to frame a witness in a 2016 murder case involving one of the accused.
The police said that two motorcycle-borne persons had passed a police team early this morning. When the police tried to stop them they fired. In retaliation the police chased them and they hid in an abandoned government building on the outskirts of the city.
Aligarh Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manilal Patidar said, “The encounter took place at Machua canal in Harduaganj area of Aligarh at 6:30 am when the police team was fired upon. A policeman was also injured in the gunfight,” he claimed.
“These two criminals involved in the murders were changing their locations after committing crimes in Atrauli, Harduaganj, and Pali Mukeempur .
Last night itself they had robbed a man of his motorbike in Aligarh,” Patidar said.
Police sent the bodies of the two men for post mortem to Aligarh district hospital and informed the district magistrate.
With these fresh encounters the total number of people shot down by the UP Police has reached 66 in well over a 1,000 encounters during the last year and a half. This is despite the NHRC and the Supreme Court taking a stern view of such killings.
