Authorities on Tuesday suspended the Internet service and closed all educational institutions in view of an exchange of fire that took place between militants and the government forces late last night during a search operation.
An official said the educational institutions were closed “as a precautionary measure”.
Meanwhile, searches are being conducted in Nowpora area of Tujjar following a brief exchange of gunfire late last night.
Reports said a joint team of army’s 22 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege around Nowpora area of Tujjer late last night following “specific” inputs about the presence of militants.
They said that soon after the cordon was laid, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the forces triggering off a brief gunfight.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said that some gunshots were heard during the cordon in the area.
He said that the operation is going on to trace out the militants.
