Transporters in Jammu and Kashmir would go on strike on October 1, alleging that the State Government has failed to consider their long pending demands.
“It is unanimously decided, by all transporters of the State that complete strike will be observed on October 1 and no commercial vehicle will ply on the roads till our demands are met by the State Government,” T.S Wazir, Chairman All J&K Transport Welfare Association, told reporters here on Thursday.
He, however, held the government responsible of inconvenience to the general public due to strike and appealed to bear with the transporters, who were forced by the authorities at the helm of affairs to adopt the agitational path and strike.
Wazir further said the transporters many times approached various State Governments and submitted memorandum to the then Chief Minister and Governor Satya Pal Malik for resolving the burning issues, but till date, no positive action has been initiated.
T.S Wazir expressed transporters displeasure regarding the hike in fuel prices day by day.
“The increased taxes, insurance and fuel prices have disturbed their lives and businesses,” he alleged adding that the Central and State Governments have failed to control the price hike.
T.S Wazir also projected the issues pertaining to revision of passenger fare, parking places for matadors, auto rikshaws and taxis, issuance of fitness certificates, charging of Adda fees from all passenger, goods carriage vehicles, tankers and taxis plying on national highways, restructuring of bank finance, penalty on renewal of transport companies licenses, renewal fee of driving licenses and pre-paid rates of taxis of Jammu provinces etc.
He threatened State administration that if their demands are not redressed at the earliest the transporters in the State would go on strike on October 1 and further will go on indefinite strike.
