Social security pension to be increased to Rs 2,000: CM

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced that the social security pension in the state will increase to Rs 2,000 from November 1.

Khattar, who was addressing a public meeting at Hodal town in the district on Sunday, said that the state government had come up to the expectations of the people in the past four years. Claiming that Haryana has already been declared kerosene-free, he said gas cylinders were being provided to poor under the ‘Ujjawala Yojana’.

Revealing that a grant of Rs 15 crore for the development of Hodal and Hassanpur towns has been sanctioned, he said several projects aimed at improving the standard of life of people were either on cards or under implementation. The projects announced on Sunday included construction of veterinary hospital at Penglatu village, sports stadia at Aurangabad, Bhidki, Kourali and Lohina villages, a dispensary at Gulawad, a primary school at Nangla Pingod and upgrade of school at Garhi Patti. He said while construction of several roads in the region was on, Hodal would get a new bus stand besides, the increase in the production capacity of the sugar mill at Palwal.

Khattar said while social security pension was being revised as per commitment, a consistent hike keeping with the inflation rate would also be ensured in future. The demand for the making Hodal a stoppage for the EMU trains would be taken up with the Union Minister of Railways soon, he said, adding that funds to the tune of Rs 20 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of the new building of the government college at Hodal.
Earlier claiming that his government had replaced the old and outdated system of governance, the CM said that difference was quite visible on the ground after elimination of corruption.

Meanwhile, a large number of elderly people and those with disabilities from across the country protested in Delhi in support of their demands. The protesters, mostly labourers and single women, demanded that the Centre should raise their pension to Rs 3,000 per month and also do away with biometric verification.
