Jammu, Oct 3: More than 2,100 candidates will contest Urban Local Bodies polls scheduled to be held in four phases from October 8 in Jammu region.
“In total 2136 nominations were filed in Jammu region from 534 wards of Jammu Municipal wards and Municipal Committees,” an official here said.
He said that 13 candidates have been declared as uncontested while 2123 will contest the elections while not even a single Ward has gone without a candidate.
“There are 75 Wards in Jammu Municipal Corporation which has whopping 447 candidates while seven Municipal Committees in Jammu district have 294 candidates,” he added and said that only 13 candidates went uncontested including, four each in Rajouri and Poonch district, three in Ramban and one each in Jammu and Kathua districts.
Rajouri district with five Municipal Committees has 178 candidates while Poonch district with two Urban Local Bodies has 85 candidates.
Kathua district with one Municipal Council and five Committees has 368 candidates while 192 candidates were in fray for one Council and two Committees in Udhampur district.
There were 53 candidates in the race for lone Municipal Committee in Kishtwar while Doda district with three Municipal Committees has 115 candidates.
“Sixty-one candidates were in fray for three Municipal Committees of Ramban and 96 for two Municipal Committees of Reasi district,” they said and added that for four Municipal Committees of Samba district, 247 nomination papers have been received.
