Srinagar, Oct 9: Train service resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for a day due to security reasons in the Kashmir valley.
The separatists had called for a general strike on the first of the four-phased Urban Local Bodies (UBL) and Panchayat polling on Monday.
‘We have resumed all train runs in the Kashmir valley after a fresh advisory was received from police last night, a senior railway official told TNN.
‘We are acting on the advice of police as safety and security of passengers ,’ he added.
He said trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly, trains will run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir, he said, adding that in fact, all morning trains on these routes are running as per schedule.
‘Today we are expected to witness heavy rush of passengers in the morning when people are resuming their normal activities after Sunday holiday,’ he added.
Train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley as it is being considered cheap, fast and safe against other modes of transport.
