Jammu, Oct 9: Alleging harrassment by the transporters, hundreds of students blocked Jammu-Poonch national highway near Akhnoor on Tuesday.
Shouting slogans, students alleged that the transporters were not allowing them to board the buses and mini buses claiming that the traffic police personnel are fining them for overloading.
Protesting students, who blocked the road near Sua Number 1 bus stop at Akhnoor, said that the transporters have refused to pick them from different spots following which they took to the streets.
“Overloading or harrassment by police are lame excuses but the transporters are not allowing students to board the bus because of the half fare being paid by the students,” they alleged.
Students said that the school goers are not entitled to pay full fare but half by producing their identity cards and it is the only reason, transporters are not allowing them.
“Either the concerned authorities should take action against erring operators or introduce bus service exclusively for the students,” they demanded.
