A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Jammu and Kashmir, Shashi Thakur on Thursday, October 11, alleged that she was sexually harassed by the then Director Vigilance for raising voice against land mafia in the state.
Though she had raised the issue three year ago, she said no action was initiated against the accused officer despite repeated complaints against the accused officer.
“I raised voice against land mafia in my state but had to face sexual harassment in the hands of the then Director Vigilance Alok Puri. Despite complaints against him that I filed no one took action against him,” Shashi wrote on Twitter, adding, “Waiting for Justice ..MeToo.”
Earlier on October 8, the Kashmir Women’s Collective (KWC) had also collated a list of cases ranging “from frivolous chats with absolute disregard to the girl’s discomfort, silence or disinterest, to attempts at physical assaults and forceful inappropriate touching”.
“Despite overwhelming public support to the #kashmirmetoo movement, the last few days have been emotionally excruciating for us at KWC. In spite of our effort to ensure that the named perpetrators of harassment are not limited to a particular social or political strata, a few people having a limited understanding of gender and harassment related issues have publicly accused us of targeting a particular political belief and questioning our politics,” KWC said in a Facebook post.
