In an incident that has left the entire Millennium City shocked, personal gunman of Additional Sessions Judge Krishan Kant Sharma shot at his wife and son in the busy Arcadia market in South City 2 on Saturday evening.

The gunman, identified as Mahipal, fled the spot, but when cornered by police he opened fire at them too. The police managed to nab him. He is being questioned about the motive behind his opening fire.

According to onlookers, judge’s wife Ritu (37) and son Dhruv (17) stepped out of Arcadia market at around 3.30 pm.

The accused gunman was with them and went to get the car from parking lot. When he came back, Ritu reportedly had a heated exchange with him after which the gunman pulled out his licenced revolver and shot at her.

He tried dragging Dhruv into the car but when he resisted the gunman fired at him too and fled the scene.

Ritu and Dhruv were rushed to hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical.

Several from legal fraternity have gathered at Medanta Medicity where the victims are being operated upon. The hospital has been turned into a fortress.

After initial interrogation, police officers said Mahipal was a Haryana police head constable and was serving as a personal security guard of the judge for the past two years.

He had been demanding leave to go home for the past few days but this was not denied. This might have led to him suffering from depression, the officers said.

“The judge also used to scold him often,” one of the interrogating officers said. — With agency inputs
