J&K Wildlife team seizes banned articles, forest produce

Jammu, Oct 25: A joint team of Wildlife department and Forest Protection Force on Wednesday raided a shop and seized banned articles and forest produce in this winter capital of the state.

”Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Forest department and Forest Protection Force headed by senior officials this afternoon raided a shop at Kanak Mandi,” official spokesman here said.

He said that during the raid, the joint team found various banned wildlife articles and minor forest produce (MFP).

The seized items consisted of genitals of monitor Lizard, leopard/tiger claws, musk deer pods, antlers, nardostachys grandiflora (Jatamansi), pistacia integerrima (Kakad singi), white kuth, sea shells and others.

”The seized items shall be sent to Wildlife Institute of India(WII) Dehradun and Forest Research Institute (FRI) Dehradun for further identification of the seized items,” spokesman added.

Meanwhile, the department has registered a case against the offenders under relevant sections of the J&K Wildlife (Protection) Act 1978 and J&K Forest Act 1987, the spokesman confirmed.
