Clashes broke out between government forces and protesters during a cordon and search operation (CASO) at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
A police official said that joint teams of army, CRPF and SOG men cordoned off DK Pora village following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
While a door-to-door search operation was in progress, scores of residents came out of their homes and hurled stones on the forces in a bid to hamper the operation, the official said, adding that the forces responded by firing tear smoke shells.
The operation was underway when the reports last came.
