Setting an example of honesty, an auto driver today returned a woman’s purse containing jewellery worth around Rs 2 lakh and other valuables, which was found at Mani Majra. The auto driver went to the police station after which the police contacted the woman, a government schoolteacher, to whom the purse belonged.
The police said Mohammad Sarif, a resident of Thakur Dwara Mandir, Mani Majra, was going for work in the morning when he noticed a woman’s purse lying abandoned near his house.
Sarif checked the bag and found valuables, including gold and silver ornaments, a mobile phone, an ATM card, Rs 800 and important documents. The auto driver immediately went to the Mani Majra police station and handed over the purse to the police.
Police officials then traced the owner of the purse and informed her.
“The purse belonged to Amrit Raj Kaur, a resident of Modern Housing Complex (MHC), Mani Majra, who is an English teacher at Government Model Senior Secondary School, MHC,” said a police official.
The woman visited the police station where her purse containing all her belongings was handed over to her.
Thought owner must be worried: Driver
The auto driver, Mohd Sarif, said the purse was lying in the middle of the road after which he stopped his auto and picked it up. “One thought that came to my mind was that the owner of the purse must be worried following which I decided to approach the police,” said Sarif.
Teacher lost purse on way to school
The police said the teacher was going to the school when she lost her purse. “After realising that she had lost her purse, the woman made several calls on her mobile phone, which was lying in the purse,” said the police
