A three-member team of Doordarshan was travelling for election-related coverage at the same time and was caught in the crossfire.
In a video, he gave details of the attack and was heard saying he loved his mother. He said the situation was not conducive and he might not live to see another day. “I saw death so close that I will never forget. I felt as though death was approaching me, but somehow was not afraid,” he said.
In the backdrop, gunshots could be heard in the video.
He shot the video, hiding himself in leaves in the jungle, while the encounter was under way.
