Jammu, Nov 2: Extending their support to the agitating students of Ladakh, Civil Society for Development of Jammu and Kashmir (CSD J&K) today said that the demand for separate University for Ladakh is just and genuine as thousands of young boys and girls from cold desert are facing great hardships in pursuing their education while staying away from their homes and spending money on rent, travel, food and other amenities in other states.
This is a fact that all other cities in Jammu and Kashmir got important institutions like IIT, IIM, government engineering and medical colleges besides a number universities and food craft institutions but Ladakh remained deprived of even a single University that could have accomodated thousands of youth who want to pursue higher studies.
In his statement issued here, CSD J&K Chief Puneet Singh Jamwal today said that since a number of youth from Leh, Nubra, Dras, Numa, Chushool, Kargil, Zanskar and other areas of Ladakh are opting for higher studies, government must provide good institutions and universities there as well. He urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to take up this matter with union HRD ministry and ensure that Ladakh gets a seperate university so that students could study in their hometown only.
Supporting Student Organization of Unified Ladakh (SOUL) and All Ladakh Student Association Jammu (ALSAJ), Puneet Singh Jamwal said it’s a fact that more than 15 thousands Ladakhi students are studying in Jammu due to lack of good educational facilities there. These students are facing hostilities and spending a lot of money which could be saved if there’s a university in Ladakh.
He said over decades the population of Ladakh has not only become just literate but also made a mark in different professions and competitive examinations. Students from Ladakh have made it to engineering, medicine, accounts, civil services and other fields which justifies their demand of having a seperate university in Ladakh. Not all students can afford higher education in other states and for them as well as others into studies a full-fledged University in Ladakh is a must.
