Chandigarh: The man, who has been accused of raping a 20-year-old model, is a former PUSU leader who has been declared a proclaimed offender (PO) in two cases registered against him in Chandigarh.
The model was allegedly raped by the 28-year-old man on Friday night at her rented accommodation in Sector 63.
The accused, identified as Baljeet Singh Choudhary, was expelled from the Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) around five years ago. He attacked a PUSU leader, Yadwinder Singh, on June 18, 2013, following which a case was registered against him at the Sector 11 police station.
On April 23, 2014, Choudhary was arrested by the Crime Branch of the UT police with a .32-bore pistol near the District Courts in Sector 43. A case was registered against him at the Sector 36 police station in this regard.
The police said they had three addresses of Choudhary in Kharar, Ropar and Ludhiana where raids were being conducted. The accused and his two friends, Baljinder Gill, a Kharar resident; and Mottu, had arrived at the model’s flat on the night of November 9. The accused consumed liquor at her flat before raping her.
“Raids are also being conducted to nab Gill and Mottu as their role in the incident is yet to be ascertained,” said a police official. The victim, a native of Himachal Pradesh, was also assaulted and threatened at gunpoint by by Choudhary.
