Baramulla, Nov 21: Residents of Dargam village in Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district urged the concerned administration for construction of a bridge in their village.

Locals of the area have been demanded this since long and are furious over the attitude of the concerned authorities over their genuine demand.

People said that Gundari Nallah is a small stream in the villages, which divides the Dargam village into two parts and from the last several decades the residents are facing hardships to cross it due the absence of bridge.

It is worth mentioning that former minister Imran Raza Ansari is the sitting MLA from Pattan.

The residents said that they have brought up the issue to various officials but nothing was done till date. Back in 2003 they requested the then MLA Ifikhar Hussain Ansari, who also visited the place in 2005 and promised the villager to build the bridge but nothing was done till date. The authorities have failed to construct the bridge.

They said that village has a population of near about 6000 and most of the people are living under below poverty line. “If some person falls sick the villagers have to carry him on their shoulder to take them to the nearest health care centre at Nihalpora which is about three kilometers as the roads are in bad condition,” said locals and added that the villagers are risking their lives every time they cross the stream.

The residents said that sometimes crossing the stream become difficult particularly during rainy season when the water level is high. The absence of bridge has made our life miserable one resident said

Also there is no direct road to connect the village to the Tehsil Headquarters Pattan. This bridge will not only benefit the village Dargam but the adjoining villages also. It will also lessen the distance to contact with the village to the main highway. Hasaan Wani on behalf of the residents of Dargam appeal to the Governor Satya Pal Malik to look after the issue and address the problem as soon as possible.
