Faridabad: The police have arrested a 24-year-old youth in connection with the stabbing of a 26-year-old married woman in Dabua colony here after 10 days of the incident.
The arrest came after “intervention” by a local social activist who not only put pressure on the police for the arrest, but also took care of the victim and her family as she remained hospitalised for 10 days.
The victim, who is employed with a private bank here, was assaulted with a knife by Sagar Satija while she was on her way back home after work at Ghazipur road at around 7.30 pm on November 12.
The victim, who was stabbed several times, got seriously injured and had to be referred to Safdurjang Hospital after being taken to civil hospital here.
Both the accused and victim are employed in the same organisation and know each other. According to the victim, the accused had reportedly developed an infatuation towards her and had even “attempted” to outrage her modesty before attacking her as she continued to resist his moves.
As she was in hospital till November 22, her family remained in constant fear as the accused was absconding. Her kin approached Varun Sheokand, a social activist, for help.
Sheokand not only offered financial help to the family, but also kept on pressuring the police for Sagar’s arrest.
It is being alleged that the police did not arrest him earlier as one of the investigating officers (IO) was interested in getting the issue resolved through an agreement without legal action.
“I visited the police station concerned several times and opposed their delaying,” said Varun.
Admitting that the victim had been stabbed several times, Inspector Sushila, SHO, women police station, NIT, said that while a case has been registered under Sections 324 (causing hurt by stabbing), 376 (attempt to rape), 511 (punishment to commit offence punishable with imprisonment for life), Section 307 (attempt to murder) might be added after getting the medical report. The accused has been remanded to one-day police custody.
