New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hit back at Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar for comparing his mother’s age with the devalued rate of the Indian rupee. “The Congress party has lost courage to compete with Modi. They are desperate so the party workers have dragged my mother and are abusing her,” the Prime Minister said, while addressing a rally in Chhatarpur district of poll bound Madhya Pradesh.
“Jis maa ko rajneeti ka ‘R’ maloom nahi hai, jo maa apni puja paath, ghar mein bhagwan ke smaran mein apna samay bita rahi hai us maa ko rajneeti mein ghaseet ke liye. Congress ke log Modi se mukabla karne ki aapki taakat nahi hai (They are dragging a mother, who does not know the ‘R’ of Rajneeti (politics). Congress party has lost courage to compete with Modi,” the Prime Minister asserted.
Furthermore he added,”We are entering the last phase of elections. Enthusiasm for BJP is increasing. The Congress is losing… There is no hope for winning. Who will bail out whom is their worry,” PM added.
On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar had launched a personal attack against Prime Minister Modi by likening the devalued rate of the Indian rupee to the age of his Nonagenarian Mother. Babbar had also called the Prime Minister ‘manhoos’ over the surging fuel prices.
He (PM Modi) used to say that the Indian rupee has fallen so much against the dollar that it was nearing the age of the then prime minister (Manmohan Singh). Today, the rupee’s valuation has dropped so low, that it is inching closer to your beloved mother’s age. (Jab vo (PM Modi) kehte the ki dollar ke samne rupaya itna gir gaya ki uss waqt ke PM ki umar batha karke kehte te ki unki umar ke kareeb ja raha hai.Aj ka rupaya, apki pujniye mataji ki umar ke kareeb niche girna shuru hogaya hai),” the Congress leader stated.
Reacting sharply to his remarks, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the comments show the Congress leaders mentality and that his party is stooping low below its dignity.
“Congress is stooping low, below its dignity and making nasty comments. One should maintain dignity in politics. I condemn this. Comparing Rupee versus Dollar to the age of Prime Minister Modi mother shows his (Raj Babbar) mentality,” he stated, while also demanding an apology for the remarks.
On the contrary, Congress leader Hanumantha Rao backed Babbar and asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to detail the development work carried out during his four-year tenure.
“Whatever Raj Babbar said was true, the exchange rate has increased. What did they do in so many years? The rate of the dollar has increased, Prime Minister Modi should speak about this,” he said.
