A text message sparked a security scare on Mumbai-bound Jet Airways flight in Kolkata that was taxiing towards the runway. One passenger was detained for questioning after he was observed typing a text message that said, ‘Terrorist on flight’.
A co-passenger saw the man type this message and informed the flight crew. The crew in turn informed the flight’s commander, who then decided to bring the plane back to the parking bay.
There, personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force, which is charged with manning the country’s airports, boarded the flight and detained the man.
The passenger was handed over to the Kolkata Police, which is questioning him.
The incident reportedly took place on board Jet Airways Flight 9W 472.
Data from flight tracking website FlightRadar24.com showed that the 9W 472, which usually departs from Kolkata at 8:15 am, was delayed by more than an hour.
The flight took off only at 9:36am.
