JAMMU: The National campaign ‘Swasth Bharat Yatra’ was accorded warm welcome at Jammu during a grand function organized by Food Safety Wing, Municipal Limit Jammu.
The Yatra, which was started on 16th of October, 2018 with theme ‘Eat Safe, Eat Healthy and Eat Fortified’ and ‘Swasth Mai Layege Thoda Farq Aj Se Kum Karege Tel, Cheeni Aur Namak’, aimed at to promote the Eat Right India Movement.
The ‘Eat Right India’ movement is a collective effort of key stakeholders and citizens and is aligned with Government’s recent focus on public health through its three key programmes, namely ‘Ayushman Bharat’, ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ which has also ‘Eat Right Mobile Unit’ and ‘Mobile Food Testing Unit’ traveling across the country to build awareness around food safety, combating food adulteration and healthy diets and ‘POSHAN Abhiyaan’. ‘Swasth Bharat Yatra’ is a key element of the Eat Right India movement.
Highlighting the salient features of the campaign, Deputy Director FSSAI Dr A C Mishra said that the programme focuses on sensitizing the people about the significance of eating safe food for leading a healthy life. He informed that the ‘Swasth Bharat Yatra’ which started from Leh after passing through various districts of Kashmir province and Jammu district will culminate at Delhi.
He said that it is the 19th Padav of their journey, so far, towards making people of India healthy which would not only mobilize the masses but also create a large pool of local community to sustain this movement on the occasion of 150thAnniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The campaign is being conducted by the Center government, in association with states, from 16 October to 27 January, 2019 on the occasion of World Food Day, he added. The FSSAI is leading this campaign to create consumer awareness about eating safe and nutritious food.
Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Municipal Limit Jammu, Dr Parvesh informed that this programme will conclude on 29th of November 2018 at Jammu for its forward journey. He said that in order to make the campaign successful, coordination of various Departments are required so that awareness is propagated among the masses and the objective of the Yatra would be achieved in full.
On the occasion, Cultural Wing of DIPR Jammu, Students of various colleges presented a colorful cultural bonanza which also included folk dances and patriotic songs.
Officials of Food Safety, ICDS, NCC Cadets besides concerned departments, NGOs, prominent citizens and students were present on the occasion.
