SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Tuesday assured the Dry Fruit Association that the district administration is all for setting up a dry fruit mandi in the district and that land for it will be identified soon.
The DC was speaking in a meeting with the representatives of the Dry Fruit Association who called on him here apprising him of various commerce and trade related issues faced by the Valley based dry fruit growers.
The Dry Fruit Association highlighted the need for a dry fruit mandi in Srinagar and sought the district administration’s solicitous consideration in this regard.
The DC said the district administration recognizes the important role the dry fruit industry plays in the economic growth of Srinagar and assured that land for setting up a dry fruit mandi in the district will be identified very soon.
Pertinently, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed the Srinagar administration to identify 50 kanals of land at Shalteng here for setting up a dry fruit mandi in order to provide adequate marketing facilities to dry fruit growers of the Valley.
