The district hospital Rajouri turned into a battlefield on Wednesday as the doctors and attendants exchanged blows several times in the day, prompting the district administration to order a magisterial probe.

Reports said that scores of people staged a protest outside the hospital around 9:30 am alleging that the doctors paid no attention towards the persons injured in a road accident a day before.

Medical superintendent of hospital and other officials reached on the spot and tried to pacify the protesters.

However, a surgeon posted at the facility engaged in a verbal spat with the protesters.

The protesters alleged that the doctor used derogatory remarks against them while the doctor retorted that he was thrashed by the protesters.

Soon after this incident, the entire staff of the hospital, including doctors, sat on a protest dharna.

Additional deputy commissioner, Sher Singh and Tehsildar Rajouri, Mehmood Khan reached at the site and tried to pacify the situation.

However, the situation further got aggravated when one of the attendants on protest was thrashed by the protesting hospital staff.

However, police, which was already present there, resorted to cane charge to disperse the two groups.

The videos of the thrashing which have gone viral on social media showed doctors thrashing and kicking the attendants.

“We have ordered an inquiry into the matter and additional district magistrate will conduct the inquiry and submit report within 72 hours,” said deputy commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz Assad.

Senior superintendent of police, Yougal Manhas told Greater Kashmir that police have taken cognizance of the matter.
