Mohali: The police have arrested four members of a gang of robbers that was mainly targeting migrants and looting their belongings by threatening or thrashing them.
The police have recovered 20 gm of heroin, a .315 bore pistol with three live cartridges, swords, iron rods, an axe and 500 banned capsules from the possession of the four robbers — Suhail Khan of Mirzapur village in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Sunil Kumar of Pabhat village, Deepak Kumar of Rampur village in Uttar Pradesh and Sunil Giri of Sultan village in Uttar Pradesh.
Inspector Tarlochan Singh, SHO of the Sohana police station, said the gang was active in Mohali of late. “They were targeting mainly labourers, working in under-construction buildings at Aerocity in Mohali. The armed robbers used to beat them up, threaten them and loot their belongings, including mobile phones, and money,” said Tarlochan Singh.
He said with their arrest, the police had solved at least nine such incidents in Aerocity and Sohana, 15 incidents in Kharar, two incidents in Balongi and five incidents in Zirakpur.
“They have confessed to their involvement in 31 incidents so far. We have recovered two motorcycles, a gold ring, 63 mobile phones, a laptop, an LCD and three gas cylinders from their possession,” said the police.
A case under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC, Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the four.
