Chandigarh, December 2: A teenager was killed and two others were injured after the motorcycle they were triple-riding without wearing helmets met with an accident with a Verna car in Sector 50 last night.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Kumar (17), a resident of Jagatpura in Mohali, while his friends who got injured in the accident have been identified as Kallu, a resident of Khandala village, Mohali, and Parmod, a resident of Sector 52.
The police said the motorcycle was being ridden by Rohit, while the other two were riding pillion.
In his statement to the police, Kallu said they were coming from Khandala village and were heading towards Sector 63 when the accident took place near a Veeta booth in Sector 50.
All three were seriously injured and were taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where Rohit succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The police said Rohit was a student of a government school in Sector 46, Chandigarh. Kallu suffered a fracture on one of his legs, while Parmod suffered head injuries.
The police said the Verna was being driven by Prem Kumar, a resident of Mohali. He was on his way from Phase XI to drop someone at Sector 45. The police said the car driver was arrested and a case against him registered at Sector 49. He was later released on bail. Both vehicles have been impounded by the police.
