Chandigarh, 03rd December 2018: Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) & GRIID in collaboration with State Legal Services Authority, UT Chandigarh observed “World Disability Day” as “Ability Day 2018” on 3rd December 2018 (Monday) at Government Rehabilitation Institute of Intellectual Disabilities (Aasha Deep), Sector 31, Chandigarh.
On the occasion, Commission has also organized cultural programme of specially- abled children. Institute of Special children of Chandigarh i.e. SOREM, Prayaas, Institute of Blind, Vatika High School for Deaf and Dumb and GRIID etc. has participated.
Sh. B.L. Sharma, IAS, Commissioner Disability – Cum- Secretary Education-cum-Secretary Social Welfare & Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest of the programme and Mr. Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, SLSA and Dr. B.S. Chavan, Director, GRIID were the Guest of Honour of this occasion.
500 Persons including children and parents had participated in the programme. Sh. B.L. Sharma, IAS, Commissioner Disability appreciated the efforts of CCPCR, who touched the sensitive areas among the children of Chandigarh. He especially appreciated Ms. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, who is deadly committed for the betterment of the children of Chandigarh and gathered all the related institutes on one platform.
Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Persons with Disabilities, New Delhi has launched a project called Universal ID for Persons with Disabilities (UDID). Universal ID for Persons with Disabilities project is expected to create a National Database for Persons with Disabilities so that a Unique Disability Identity Card can be issued to each Persons with Disabilities. On the occasion UDID Cards were distributed to the beneficiaries by Sh. B.L. Sharma, IAS, Commissioner Disability.
In the programme, Achievers specially-abled children were also awarded by the by Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Function was also witnessed by the parents and teachers of specially-abled children. Parents of specially- abled children appreciated the efforts of the commission who touched these sensitive issues and these kind of events.
Dr. B.S. Chavan, Director, GRIID said that this kind of unique programme has been organised for the first time in Chandigarh and will love to continue with the same spirit and also welcomed commission for any such venture. Sh. Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, SLSA presided over the function and appreciated children and parents of different fields who participated in the program and awarded the performers and their achievers of various institution. The Creative works of the Special Children Institutes of Chandigarh i.e. SOREM, Prayaas, Institute of Blind, Vatika High School for Deaf and Dumb and GRIID were also displayed and much appreciated
On this occasion, Ms. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR thanked Dr. Vani (Principal GRIID), the GRIID staff, and complemented Dr. B.S. Chavan for setting up bench mark for such children in the city beautiful and assured to provide full support to carry forward the message.
Dr. Monica M Singh, Member, CCPCR, Sh. Kartar Singh (Law Officer), Sh. Chanchal Singh (RTE Consultant), Sh. Arvind (PA to chairperson) and other staff of CCPCR were also present on the occasion.
