Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Thursday hit back at Leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala for his comments that the former and his father, Rao Birender Singh, did nothing for the SYL canal.
“Abhay should learn history before practicing politics. He does not know the history of Haryana’s struggle for the SYL canal and claims that he would bring waters for the state. He should have known that my father was the Union Agriculture Minister when the Ravi Water Treaty was signed by Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan in the presence of then PM Indira Gandhi, and he played an important role in the signing of the accord on December 31, 1981,” Rao Inderjit said.
The minister said when he was a Congress MP in 2011, he had organised a Jal Prabandhan Rally at Nangal Chaudhary without caring for the party or his seat.
On Wednesday, Abhay had stated during a public meeting that Rao Inderjit Singh and his family had misled the people of the state on the issue of SYL canal. Rao had been a minister in Congress as well BJP government but had never done anything to resolve the issues of South Haryana, he claimed.
