Mohali: Claiming to have worked out the case of Mullanpur carjacking at gunpoint, which took place on November 27, the local police have arrested two suspects while their two accomplices are at large.

Those arrested have been identified as Himmat Singh of Ropar and Inderpreet Singh, alias Binder, of Mullanpur. Their accomplices, who are yet to be nabbed, are identified as Amandeep Singh, alias Aman, from Majri and Jaspreet Singh Jas.
On November 27 night, the miscreants had robbed a white Swift car from Amandeep Singh, a resident of Haripur Sandoli village in Baddi who runs a salon at Sector 40 in Chandigarh.

The police had already recovered the victim’s car and the silver Swift car used in the crime.

The victim had claimed that two of the three miscreants, who came out of the silver car, were carrying pistols. The police have recovered a baseball bat from the suspects so far. Though the victim had claimed that the number of miscreants was five, the police claimed that it has come out during the investigation that they were four in number.

SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said all the suspects were relatives. “Binder and Inderpreet run gyms in their respective areas,” said SSP Chahal, adding that the police did not find any criminal record of the miscreants. “It seemed to be their first such crime. We are yet to ascertain the real motive behind it,” he said.

The SSP said the police got the vital lead in the case after spotting the silver car at a toll plaza in Kurali. He added that after committing the crime around 8 pm on November 27, the miscreants had crossed the toll plaza at 8.43 pm in the silver car. Later, the police also spotted them (the miscreants) in some other footage of CCTV cameras installed at various points.

The silver car used in the crime belonged to Himmat Singh, who was rounded up by the police around a couple of days after the crime.

The SSP said raids were on to nab the remaining two suspects. The accused were produced in court today, which sent them to three-day police remand.
