Panchkula, December 8: The local police today arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly raping a 10-year-old in Raipur Rani.
The victim lives with her grandparents. Her father had died and mother was not living with them.
The suspect, Ashok Kumar, alias Rangeela, who used to work at a construction site, lured the child by offering biscuit around 9 am today. He took her to a room nearby and allegedly raped her.
As people started gathering at the spot on hearing the girl’s shrieks, the suspect had fled from there.
The victim’s relatives also reached there
Police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamal Deep Goyal, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vijay Deswal and Raipur Rani SHO Inspector Mahendar Singh, reached the spot.
A case under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered at the Women police station in Sector 5 here. “The girl’s statement has been recorded,” said Ajit Singh, SHO, Women police station. He ruled out that the victim was mentally challenged.
