Kurukshetra: Acting President of Mauritius Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory on Thursday said the Gita Mohatsav would be celebrated in Mauritius in February next year.
Speaking at a seminar on ‘Making of modern India- insights from Bhagwad Gita’, Vyapoory said India would also be invited for the event.
He said Gita holds answers to various challenges of the modern-day life. He stressed the need to popularise the ancient Indian text among the youth to sensitise them about their social responsibilities and to stay away from intoxicants.
“In the modern age, youth are facing pressures and uncertainty and in the absence of guidance and inspiration, they are heading towards alcoholism, drugs and indulging in unethical activities. In order to give a positive direction to the youth, there is need to preach them the principles of mortality from Bhagwad Gita,” the visiting dignitary added.
Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya said the principle of karma, as enshrined in Bhagwad Gita, should be reflected in the daily life and youth should learn how to practice it. “In the age of globalisation, the world is accepting the vision and the message given in Gita,” he added.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the Gita had a message for every section of the society, including politicians, farmers and students, to act dutifully.
He said the sacred book also contained management values which taught us how to manage our life. “After being inspired from the holy book, the prestigious Harvard Business School has carried out research on Bhagwad Gita and also implemented the same,” he added.
Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University Kailash Chandra Sharma said the university would start research centres on Bhagwad Gita and Buddhism. Sharma said the Governor had advised the university to open these centres. The proposed Buddhism centre would work from Dr BR Ambedkar Study Centre whereas the Department of Philosophy would run a centre on Gita.
