New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday urged the Supreme Court to recall its Rafale judgment and issue contempt of court and perjury notices to the government, alleging the Centre had provided false information to the apex court.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Congress leader Anand Sharma also alleged that the government was guilty of committing breach of privilege of both Houses of Parliament by claiming that the CAG report on the Rafale jet pricing had been presented to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, the Congress leader said: “They should seek penance and take a dip in the holy Ganges instead”.

“We urge the Supreme Court to recall its ruling on the Rafale and issue notices of perjury and contempt of court to the government,” he said.

A recent verdict by the Supreme Court said, among other things, that a CAG report on Rafale pricing the government had been tabled in Parliament and the Public Accounts Committee, prompting denials from members of the Parliamentary PAC panel—primarily Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge.  Kharge said no such report had been placed before it, forcing the central government to move the court seeking an amendment in the wording of its ruling.

Earlier this week, the court refused to go into pricing of the Rafale deal—an order that the central government sees as a shot in the arm in the election season. With PTI
