BANDIPORA, DECEMBER 21: Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir on Friday directed to launch a special campaign for creating awareness among girls with regard to education and sports.
While chairing a meeting of officers, Mir asked them to initiate a special drive for next 15 days under BetiBachaoBetiPadhao to focus on empowerment of girl child. He asked the officials to hold seminars, symposiums, conferences, workshops, sports and other events to create awareness among women folk about various initiatives taken by the government for women empowerment.
The meeting was attended by Chief Education Officer Bandipora Munshi Javed, District Social Welfare Officer Altaf Hussain, representative of Govt Degree College Sumbal, BDO Bandipora, Nodal Officer Khelo India, Peerzada Khursheed Ahmad Shah, all CDPOs and supervisors of ICDS besides other officials.
He also urged the department of education to hold special drive in next 15 days to enroll more girl child and school drop outs so that they can continue their studies.
The department of Youth Services and Sports was also directed to dedicate the next 15 days for the girl child and organise sports events and training programs for girls under Khelo India and also asked them to hold special martial arts coaching for girls besides other sports activities.
Mir also directed the Department of Rural Development to hold awareness programs in rural areas and engage the gram Panchayats in the program with special focus of women empowerment. The Department of Social welfare was also directed to participate in the 15-day long program that will focus on women empowerment.
He said that BetiBachaoBetiPadhao campaign has proved quite fruitful in creating mass awareness regarding the importance of girls in building a balanced society. He added that this scheme is very effective in enhancing the number of girl children and in bringing down the dropout rate in schools and number of female foeticide cases.
