Thousands of people on Saturday took part in the last rites of slain deputy chief of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind militant in Arampora area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
According to media Reports the mourners raised slogans in favour of Islam and Kashmir’s freedom besides eulogising slain Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt.
Akhoon, who was a deputy of Zakir Musa, was killed in a gunfight along with five associates in a gunfight in Arampora early today.
“Based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Arampora area of Awantipora, a cordon and search operation was launched by security forces in the area today morning,” said a police spokesman.
He said as the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight, he said.
In the ensuing encounter, six militants were killed.
