LMD imposes fine of Rs 50,000

BARAMULLA, MAY 29: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Baramulla penalized an edible oil manufacturer with a fine of Rs. 20000 for manufacture and sale of underweight oil packages and violating labeling norms in their packages. Earlier, a case was registered against the manufacturer by LMO Baramulla after samples of the brand were found to be wanting in weight tests.

The packages of edible oil were found to be short by 30 to 35 g in every package of 910 g declared net weight (corresponding to a volume of 1 litre). A fine of Rs. 20000 was imposed upon the defaulting manufacturer after it had assured the compounding authority that the mistake would be rectified in near future.

In another case booked by Legal Metrology Officer, Sopore against an intra ocular lens dealer for sale of lens packages without retail sale price, a fine of Rs. 30000 was imposed on the dealer after it had pleaded guilty of the offence.
