Abohar, December 25: Two persons were killed and at least eight sustained injuries in fog-related accidents on the highway in neighbouring segments of Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh.

Kamla Devi (51), who was taking her daughter’s body in an ambulance from Jaipur to Silkhurd village in the Sangria segment of Hanumangarh, was killed as the vehicle collided with a bull and overturned near Brahmasar, a few km away from Rawatsar, at 10.30 pm on Monday. Kamla Devi’s daughter Santosh Rani, who was unwell for the past few weeks, died during treatment at a hospital in Jaipur on Monday.

Kamla’s son Balwant and nephew Dharampal were also hurt and shifted to the Community Health Centre in Rawatsar. The victims said the driver was not at fault as the visibility was poor and the bull suddenly came in front of the vehicle. The mother’s body was given to the family after a postmortem.

In another mishap, driver Praveen Jat (26) of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana was killed as his truck got involved in a multi-vehicle collision that affected a car and another truck on the highway in Rajasthan due to fog this morning.

In yet another accident, six passengers sustained injuries as a Rajasthan Roadways bus collided with a truck due to dense fog on the highway on Tuesday. The injured were shifted to the Loonkaransar-based community health centre.

Sriganganagar ASP Surinder Singh Rathore said district police chief Yogesh Yadav today issued directions to all police stations that cops manning the naka must use reflector-affixed jackets, parking of vehicles on the roadside should not be allowed and night patrolling be intensified as fog may prevail for the next few days.

Highway ambulances have been alerted to respond to mishap calls immediately and pass on necessary information to the police control room too.
