KATHUA, DECEMBER 29: District Information Centre, Kathua organized a symposium on the ill effects of drug addiction here at Government Middle School, ChakSheikhan today.
Headmistress of the school, Anu Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while students and staff of the school were also present on the occasion.
As many as 10 students of the school participated in the symposium and threw light on the subject. The speakers said apart from the effects on the brain, drug addiction can cause heart and lung problems, stroke and damages to the liver and kidneys.
The abuse of prescription drugs, especially the antidepressants and stimulants, slow down the brain, while also cause paranoia, irregular heartbeat and seizures. They suggested that problem can be solved, though, with professional help and with the collective efforts of the society.
A panel of judges adjudged the participants of the symposium.
Suresh of class 8th secured the 1st position while the 2nd position was bagged by Gourav of class 8th and the 3rd position was clinched by Sourab of class 6th.
