DODA, DECEMBER 29:- A One day awareness cum training programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right Act (PPV&FRA) 2001 was today organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra here at Bhaderwah.
Dr PK Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr JP Sharma Director Research, Dr RK Arora Associate Director Extension, Dr Deepak Kher Director Planning, Dr MahitalJamwal Senior Scientist &Incharge RHRSS Bhaderwah and Dr RavneetKourIncharge KVK Doda were also present on the occasion.
The programme was attended by over 80 farmers from different village across the district besides officers and field functionaries of the agriculture and allied departments. The programme was aimed at the making the farmers and extension functionaries aware of the PPV&FRA 2001 and motivate them to register the local varieties of the district under the Act.
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr RK Arora Associate Director Extension.
Dr PK Sharma stressed upon farmers’ education regarding the provisions of the Act and informed that the KVKs of SKUAST Jammu are working for registration of different crop varieties under PPV&FRA 2001. He called the act a great initiative of the Govt. of India with the objective of protecting the local germ-plasm and encouraging the framers for the same.
He informed that the registration of 35 varieties by the University is in process.
Dr JP Sharma Director Research, stressed upon for the conservation of local germplasm and urged upon the farmers to conserve their local germplasm in the gene bank for future use. Dr RK Arora, focused on the conservation of local varieties of the district and registration with PPVF&FR Authority.
He sought cooperation of the farmers and asked them to come forward with their germplasm
During the programme scientists of KVK Doda and RHRSS Bhaderwah educated the participants regarding PPV&FRA 2001 and various provisions under Act. Dr GN Jha, briefed the participants about IPR related issues, Dr AS Charak educated the participants about geographical Indicators and relevance to PPVR&FRA, Dr Narinder Paul brief the participants about farmers’ rights under PPV&FRA, Dr Mahitaljamwal emphasized upon the relevance of PPV&FRA for district Doda and enlisted the crops and local varieties that can be registered under the Act. Dr Neeraj Kotwal, Dr Rohit Sharma, Dr Manoj Sharma and Dr Sanjeev Choudhary from RHRSS Bhaderwah also spoke during the programme. Dr RavneetKour concluded the programme with vote of thanks.
