Chandigarh: At a meeting convened at the Police Headquarters, Sector-9, Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of Nilambari Jagadale, SSP, police officers, managers, event organisers and owners of restaurants, hotels, pubs and clubs were intimated about the guidelines they must adhere to during the New Year celebrations.
Informing the managers about strict nakas to keep a check on drunken driving, the police encouraged them to advise their customers against indulging in any illegal activities. To ensure road safety of their customers, hospitality personnel were advised to make adequate arrangements, including prior arrangement of cab/taxis.
In case a female needs help, owners/managers of pubs, bars and hotels are directed to call 100/1091 for Chandigarh police to assist a pick-and-drop service.
They were also directed to make a list of customers’ IDs.
Jagadale strongly affirmed that no sale of liquor to a person below the age of 25 years should be allowed. The hospitality businesspersons/managers were asked to make sure that no person is allowed to carry any type of weapon inside the venue and that proper fire-fighting equipment is installed at the venue.
Security beefed up
The New Year will be celebrated at 115 places. Around 55 internal nakas and 18 outer border nakas have been set up. Nine ambulances, eight fire engines, three hydraulic ladders, eight aska lights and a similar number of quick response teams have been deployed across the city. A special women squad has been formed under the supervision of Inspector Reena Yadav to assist the women. Nine PCR vehicles, with women staff, are also being deployed to offer pick-and-drop facility to women in case any call is received by the control room.
