Dr. Owais, DC Shopian took review of snow clearance, made extensive tour to various parts of the district.
All important and essential services are running smoothly
SHOPIAN, JANUARY 05: After the recent snowfall, DC Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed, toured various parts of the district and took first hand review of snow clearance, power and water supply and stock of essential commodities. He along with his team today visited the Shopian town area, Padpawan, Burihalan, Heerpora and reviewed the arrangements for the public.
During his visit, Deputy Commissioner interacted with several people and enquired about any hardship being faced by them. He also directed the officials to gear up the men and machinery to meet any adverse situation arising due to recent snowfall. People of the area appreciated the efforts of administration and expressed that the essential services of water, electricity and road connectivity were restored in record time in the district.
Dr Owais has been closely monitoring restoration of all services after the district received fresh snowfall yesterday. He said that the district administration has setup an effective response mechanism by using control rooms and social media so as to ensure that the issues of general public and redressed in time bound manner.
When contacted, DC Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed, said that “the snow clearance work was started in the midnight and we have been able to restore all major roads by 10:00 am. Power and water supply has also been restored.” He also adviced the public to take precaution while walking or driving on the road. He further said that “while it is essential that the people should keep heating arrangements at their home, they should avoid using bukharis and kangris in closed rooms and ensure proper ventilation of the area as it can be life threatening.”
Pertinently, the DC had chaired an emergency meeting of senior officers of all line departments and later took a first-hand appraisal of efforts on the ground during a late-night inspection tour of the district.
