DC Kargil for organized, prompt disaster response measures

Takes stock of Shab-i-Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vida, Eid arrangements

KARGIL, MAY 30: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Vikas Kundal, who is also the Chairman District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), today convened a meeting to review the status of disaster preparedness in the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho, Superintending Engineer PWD Sarwan Singh, Superintending Engineer Mechanical, Chief Medical Officer and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on the preparedness of the DDMA to deal with disasters and natural calamities. Measures with regard to ensure road safety and prevention of fire incidents and other natural and manmade disasters also came up for discussion.

The Deputy Commissioner while taking stock of the DDMA’s action plan, status of inventory updation and vulnerability chart directed the concerned to put in place area and natural calamity specific Standard of Operating Procedures (SOPs) so as to formulate an effective and instant response mechanism.

The DC stressed the need to make the DDMA more effective and organized by holding mock drills and training programmes every month. He also underlined the need for coordinated efforts among different departments so that the resources could be properly channelized to minimize the loss of life and property in the eventuality of any sort of natural or manmade disaster.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed preparations being put in place by the district administration for the ensuing Shab-i-Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vida, and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The DC directed the officers to ensure all necessary arrangements for the religious events well in time so that the people do not face any inconvenience. Issues with regard to the provision of drinking water, power, medicare, sanitation, ration and other requirements came up for discussion.

The concerned officers were directed to put in place proper sanitation mechanism around the locations where religious congregations take place.

The DC also directed the officers of PHE, PDD and FCS&CA to ensure an adequate supply of LPG, sugar and essential commodities besides ensuring that people get uninterrupted power and drinking water supply during the festival days.The market checking squads were also directed to intensify market checking.

Concerned district officers and representatives of the religious organizations were also present in the meeting.
