Scores of women on Thursday staged a protest at Rajouri Kadal in Downtown Srinagar to demand release of their jailed kin whom they said were being handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Witnesses said that scores of women assembled at Rajouri Kadal at 10 am and blocked the road to protest against the alleged handing over of nine Srinagar youth to the NIA.
The protesting women, mostly the relatives of the nine youth who were detained in November last year, shouted slogans to demand release of their jailed kin.
Earlier in the day, the police had refuted reports suggesting the youth were being handed over to the NIA. A police spokesman said: “In this context it is clarified that the instant case FIR No 93/2018 was registered at Police Station Kothi Bagh under the relevant sections of law. This case was subsequently taken over by NIA and all the arrested accused persons in this case are presently in Judicial Custody.”
The youth were arrested by the police in November last year for alleged militant links.
