Jalandhar, January 26: The former Liberal MP Raj Grewal has finally cleared the air over his ‘resignation’ by asserting that he was staying on as the Member of Parliament from Brampton East till elections on October 21.
Having announced that he would resign from his seat as the Liberal MP for ‘personal and medical reasons’ on November 22 last, Grewal has virtually been flip-flopping on the issue of his resignation.
After announcement of his resignation, Grewal had sought to skirt the contentious issue for the liberals saying he was ‘taking leave’ to deal for what he described as his ‘compulsive’ gambling problem which had led to heaping up millions of dollars of debt for him.
Later, he had promised to make a final decision about his resignation as well as about his political future before resumption of the Parliament in 2019. Grewal’s resignation and the reasons cited for it had virtually left the ruling Liberal Party red-faced, particularly after reports had poured in that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) was carrying out an investigation into Grewal’s financial transactions.
Now, Grewal has claimed that he has since paid back his debts. He has also said every loan he had taken from his family and friends was ‘transparent and traceable’.
Grewal who was now sitting as an independent MP has posted a video, wherein he has sought to clear the air over an array of allegations and which has indicated that he might not be resigning and that he would remain an MP till federal elections are be held slated for October. Grewal has said though last two months have been a ‘challenging time’ for him, but at the same time, it has turned out to be a period of ‘immense personal growth’ for him.
