Man held with Rs 46.5-lakh gold

Mohali, January 31: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested an air passenger with 1.40 kg of gold biscuits, worth around Rs 46.5 lakh, at the Chandigarh international airport here today.

The passenger was travelling on the Sharjah-Chandigarh flight, which landed here. The passenger had concealed 12 gold biscuits in his body. The biscuits were wrapped in polythene and concealed in the rectum.

According to sources, the DRI officials intercepted the passenger on a tip-off.

The officials also detained another person, who had come to receive him.

The sources said the passenger told the DRI officials that he was a carrier. The consignment was to be delivered to the person who has been detained.
