Swine flu claims one more life in Dera Bassi

Dera Bassi, February 3: With another death of swine flu patient, the menace of deadly disease continues in the Dera Bassi sub-division. After 70-year-old man, a resident of Mehmadpur, here, succumbed to the virus on Saturday, the number of deaths due to swine flu rose to three.

According to information, the victim was admitted to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, on January 22 after he showed signs of swine flu following which his sputum samples were sent to the PGI for testing.

The test report of his swab throat from the PGI confirmed the H1N1 infection, said sources.

The victim was then shifted to a private hospital in Zirakpur on January 23 where he succumbed to the deadly virus on Saturday night.

This was the third swine flu death in Dera Bassi. Earlier, a 23-year-old youth from Dandrala village, Dera Bassi, had succumbed to the H1N1 virus on January 29.

Officials of the Health Department said they had given medicines to all those who came into contact of the deceased. The health authorities also conducted a survey in the area where the swine flu patient was living.

Meanwhile, the health department has intensified an awareness campaign and teams of the department are visiting the rural areas to sensitise people about the disease and preventive measures.
