Shopian, February 7: Taking first hand review of the essential services and snow clearance, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed, today visited snow affected areas and interacted with the people of the district. Later he took a detail review of snow clearance arrangements, health care and other essential services in the district.
Reviewing the working of Mechanical Engineering wing, Dr Owais directed the Assistant Engineer concerned to personally monitor the snow clearance process and ensure that the priority roads are kept through for the traffic. He also took stock of availability of ration and other supplies in the district.
He further instructed Executive Engineers of Power, PHE and R&B department to ensure round the clock availability of various services to the public.
Reviewing the health sector, he instructed that the doctors may need to work overtime to ensure that the patients do not suffer in this cold weather. He also said that resumption of duties by NHM staff is added advantage to the health sector of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the administration is fully prepared to tackle the issues arising out of heavy snowfall in the district. He further said that efforts are being made to ensure that there is no delay in provision of basic amenities to the public.
Pertinent to mention here that district Shopian has received heaviest snowfall in the recent history. The snow depth is ranging from 3 feet in town to 6 feet in higher reaches.
