The nation has been mourning the loss of 40 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who were killed in the deadliest attack on security forces in recent times. On Thursday afternoon, Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide bomber Adil Ahmed Dar an explosive-laden SUV into one of the buses in a security convoy in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 40 soldiers and grievously injuring several others.
Vicky Kaushal, who was last seen on the big screen in Aditya Dhar’s Uri: The Surgical Strike, strongly condemned the Pulwama terror attack. Talking to reporters at an event, he said that the perpetrators of the attack should be given a befitting reply. However, he said that the best way of retaliation should be left to the government to decide.
“Main ek bohot kum knowledge wala insaan hoon. Isko lekar yahaan baithke bolna bohot aasaan hai ki aap yeh kar do, aap woh kar do, aisa hona chahiye, waisa hona chahiye. Uske repercussions bhi hote hai. I think the best move, humari government soch hi rahi hogi. (I am a man of limited knowledge. Sitting here, it is very easy to say that this or that should be done. But there are repercussions to think of as well. I am sure our government ia already thinking about the best way to retaliate),” the actor said.
“Jaise hum baat kar rahe hai, waise ek thos tareeke se baat chal rahi hogi kahin. Mujhse zyaada gyani log yeh baat kar rahe honge and I think unpe chhodna chahiye. (As we speak, a serious discussion on how to respond to the attack must be going on somewhere. People who are more knowledgable than me are involved in the discussion and I think we should leave it to them.) But that pain and anger that we are feeling unitedly, I feel that it should not be forgotten and it should not be forgiven also,” Vicky added.
He also said that a befitting response should be given to the terrorists behind the attack. “Bilkul, ek jawaab dena bohot zaroori hai, jawaab iss taur pe ki inn cheezon ko hum lightly nahi lenge, bohot seriously lenge. (Absolutely, it is necessary to give a befitting response that will make them realise that we do not take such things lightly but very seriously),” he said.
On Friday, the official Twitter handle of the CRPF said that the dastardly attack will be avenged. “WE WILL NOT FORGET, WE WILL NOT FORGIVE: We salute our martyrs of Pulwama attack and stand with the families of our martyr brothers. This heinous attack will be avenged,” the tweet read.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at an event in Delhi on Friday that the sacrifices of the CRPF jawans will not go in vain. “Security forces have been given complete freedom, the blood of the people is boiling…Our neighbouring country, which has been isolated internationally, thinks such terror attacks can destabilise us, but their plans will not materialise,” he said.
