Panchkula: A major tragedy was averted when children of Indira Colony found a live bomb shell in a nearby drain and informed the police, who took the bomb in their custody.
According to the police, some children were playing near the drain located near Indira Colony when they saw the shell. One of them informed the police, who arrived at the site. The police said constable Yash Pal, along with a colleague, took out the bomb from the drain and took it to the police chowki in Sector 16. Earlier, a bomb shell was found near the Ghaggar.
The SHO of the Sector 14 police station, Yashdeep Singh, said the bomb had possibly come down from the cantonment area during the recent heavy rain as the drain was flooded. He said only the bomb disposal squad could give further information regarding the bomb, which weighed around 7 kg.
Ambala bomb disposal squad informed
The SHO of the Sector 14 police station in Panchkula, Yashdeep Singh, said they had decided to remove the bomb from the drain as children were playing there. He said they did not want the children to play with the bomb as it could lead to a major mishap. He said they had informed the bomb disposal squad at Ambala so that it could be defused.
